Can you believe I had never been to New York City before! It’s been a long time coming and it was everything I expected and more; crazy, smelly and busy, but that’s what gives this city its character. What else do you go to New York for but for food, Broadway shows and shopping!
Where to Eat
Russ & Daughters
You can’t go to New York and not have a bagel. This family-owned spot is great at any time of the day. Order ‘The Classic’ board.
Katz’s Delicatessen
A must when in New York, this no-frills deli serves mouth-watering pastrami sandwiches and Jewish deli classics, like matzo ball soup.
Chelsea Market
Everything from noodles to doughnuts, this indoor food hall close to The High Line offers an array of cuisines. Grab a taco from Los Tacos No.1 then make your way to the seafood section for fresh Maine lobster. Try the Manhattan Clam Chowder, it’s bomb!
Smorgasburg
Hit up this foodie market in Williamsburg (open only on Saturdays). Make sure you go with an empty stomach, the portions are big and options aplenty.
Egg Shop
If you love eggs, this is a must! A cosy cafe with finger-licking fried chicken.
Momofuku Milk Bar
For a treat yo self soft serve and b’day truffles (basically cake batter in a ball, drool). Grab a few cookies for friends back home.
What to Do
Broadway Shows
From The Book of Morman to Wicked, the choices of Broadway shows are endless. Tip: head to TKTS in Times Square to purchase discounted tickets on the day.
Top of The Rock
Albeit a bit touristy, ascending to the 86th floor of the Rockefeller Centre gives you 360-degree views of New York City. Tip: buy your tickets online in advance.
Central Park
Take a stroll and people watch at Sheep Meadow. If you’re feeling romantic, take a row boat around the lake.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art
The Met steps have been made iconic from Gossip Girl but what’s inside is what counts, over 5000 years of art from around the world.
Places to Shop
Catbird
This cute boutique in Williamsburg stocks a curated collection of dainty jewellery and gifts.
Artists & Fleas
This weekend-only indoor market in Brooklyn sells everything from handmade jewellery, arts & crafts items, to antiques and vintage threads. It’s just a short walk from Smorgasburg food market so fuel up on food then shop!
Where to Drink
Le Bain, The Standard
Penthouse club and rooftop terrace with cool vibes. Arrive early to nab a spot on the pink lounges before sundown. Grab a cocktail pitcher and enjoy the skyline views. If you’re peckish, they even have a crêperie!
The Roof At Public
Newly opened hotspot, Public is the perfect place for sundowners and city views. I spotted Jenna Lyons here chatting away with a friend over drinks.
Westlight
Over in Brooklyn, this wraparound terrace located on the 22nd floor of The William Vale Hotel offers panoramic views overlooking the Manhattan skyline. Order a drink, sit back and take it all in!
Bar Centrale
An intimate bar in a converted apartment frequented by Broadway stars. We saw Olivia Wilde here during our visit!
